What is Inversion?
Inversion is an ancient technique that dates back to around 400 B.C during the time of Hippocrates. Inversion is simply hanging upside down using specially designed equipment.
What is the Purpose of Inversion?
The purpose of Inversion is to reverse the effects of gravity and to cause a negative pressure within the disc spaces to reabsorb protruding and herniated discs. In performing this function, pain relief and correction of the herniated/protruded disc material is achieved. It will also decompress jammed facets or joints in the spine that can cause pain. It is a fun and simple yet extremely effective way to stretch tight muscles of the back and decompress the spine and discs. There are many other benefits from hanging upside down. Gravity causes compression to the body when you are sitting or standing. Gravity also causes fatigue, spinal distortion and eventually pain and suffering. The only time that gravity does not compress your body is when you are lying down. Hanging upside down will decompress and reverse the effects of gravity. It’s that simple. Nothing else will reverse the effects of gravity like Inversion.
What are the benefits from Inversion?
Continued and persistent inversion corrects disc herniations of both the neck and low back. It helps prevent and slow disc degeneration. It reduces compression fatigue, distortion and pain to the spine and back muscles. Back pain is the second leading cause of disability in the workplace. Inversion is excellent in relieving pain even after having had certain spinal surgeries.
Most patients report that their back muscles stretch and loosen up. Some find an immediate sense of well being. Many patients have reported almost instant back pain relief after only one session. Some patients may not sense immediate relief, however, they report relief after several sessions.
Other health and anti-aging benefits are: Improved circulation especially to the head and face; Relief of muscular tension in the neck and back, improved lymphatic circulation; and improved function of the glands and organs due to the hydrostatic/decongestioning effect of inversion. In addition, improved brain function of memory, coordination and balance have also been reported.
Many celebrities have embraced Inversion. Richard Gere popularized Inversion by doing abdominal crunches while hanging upside down in the movie American Gigolo. Rosie O’Donnell shared on her talk show and demonstrated how she uses Inversion as therapy for depression. Jack Canfield from the hit movie The Secret and Mark Victor Hansen of the book series Chicken Soup for the Soul also use Inversion. The Army Rangers use Inversion as part of their conditioning program.
Thousands of chiropractors, patients and ordinary people all around the world hang upside down every day. I’ve been hanging for twenty years and no longer suffer with a burning sensation or pain in my neck or low back. I would often get cricks in my neck and low back. I no longer suffer with any of that. It is an excellent preventative technique that is quick, simple and extremely effective. There are thousands of patients who would have continued to suffer with pain or may have ended up worse after a spinal surgery had it not been for Inversion.

Can anyone use Inversion Therapy?
Inversion Therapy is safe for practically anyone from 4 -74? years of age. However, there are a few conditions that may prevent one from hanging upside down.
Obvious contraindications are if you just had abdominal or chest surgery or have a recent rib or collarbone fracture. Persons with extremely high blood pressure or glaucoma may not be suitable. Every person is different and needs to be evaluated as such. If you have a contraindication you may not want to hang. Or, do a trial by using a mild angle on your inversion machine (20-30 degrees) and see how you feel.
What Do The Critics Say About Inversion?
If you think about it, if there was a fast, safe, effective and inexpensive way to treat painful spinal conditions, don’t you think that those that stand to profit from expensive treatments like spinal surgery are going to try to deter you from considering Inversion? Or they make Inversion sound so dangerous when the very treatment that they propose is much more dangerous. Critics also state there is no scientific proof supporting the claims made by those that promote Inversion. However there are hundreds of testimonials from every day people who have benefited from Inversion. I’ve collected many over the years and have some video testimonials I will be posting on my website soon.
Certainly Inversion is not for everybody. There are some contraindications which I have already mentioned. However, it would certainly be foolish NOT to try Inversion if you have been suffering with back pain. You need to hang upside down every day for 30 seconds or more if tolerated and gradually work your way up to 2-5 minutes 1-3 times a day for at least a period of 2 to 3 weeks. Doesn’t it make sense to try this instead of continuing to take pain pills, considering surgery or succumb to learning to live with the pain?
My Final Comments
Let me just tell you that there is no HYPE here. I truly want to help you and teach you to help yourself get rid of your back pain, prevent A LOT of UNNECESSARY doctor visits, save you TONS of MONEY and TIME. If you follow ALL my recommendations you WILL IMPROVE. Several of my co-workers and many of my patients, many of whom were scheduled for spinal surgery were able to prevent that spinal surgery by hanging upside down as I instructed them. Now they hang upside down every day.
Go out and invest in an Inversion Machine and start hanging. If you are not sure whether you can use Inversion, contact me. Most medical doctors are not familiar with Inversion and may discourage you from trying something that could help you tremendously and likely cure you of your back pain. Talk to your health care provider(s), do some research on the internet and you will find that you don’t have to live in pain or have that dreaded surgery. Most of the time if you work with a holistic practitioner be it a Chiropractor, Naturopath, Acupuncturist or the rare Medical Doctor who practices holistic medicine you will find that you don’t have to succumb to the typical prescription drugs, injections then surgery or have to learn to live with the pain.

Whats the difference between anti aging and anti wrinkle creams and which ones actually work?

Anti-aging or anti-wrinkle creams are advertised to do basically the same thing….to help keep your skin looking young…. less wrinkles, less sagging etc. I do know that most creams, lotions, make up contain petroleum based chemicals.
A good friend of mine recently told me her mother gave her some creams from a well known company. You know…. one of the expensive brands you can by at the mall. So she commented that in a matter of a couple of weeks she could notice the dryness under her eyes. Sometimes we equate high quality with a high price. Not always true.
If you want to keep you skin looking good…. eat healthy, get a little sunshine as often as you can, take good natural whole food vitamins, hang upside down daily, don’t smoke or drink alcohol excessively and use a quality cream for your face.

There is nothing better than getting down from the slopes after a great day of awesome skiing and hanging upside down for a couple of minutes followed by 15-20 minutes in a HOT Tub! Incredible!!

Nice article and video. I have scoliosis and purchased an inversion table about 2 months ago. It really seems to be helping with back pain. I use it 10 minutes twice a day. In your video you should exercises to do while inverting. However, I have a full size inversion table because I wanted to be able to hang completely inverted. Can I do these same exercises on my inversion table?
Dear LB- Thank you for posting your comment…. glad you liked this article and video. You really can’t do the back extension exercise I demonstrated on my video, but you can do abdominal crunches preferably with the knees bent.
I will be posting more videos next week… 1. using an inversion table like you have and demonstrate some exercises you can do. 2. In a different video I’ll be demonstrating exercises you can do on the floor specific for herniated/bulging discs and low back pain.

You can’t imagine how good it is for your spine and discs….not to mention so many other benefits and the most important one of all …PREVENTION of problems with your spine and discs. I can only tell you so many of my patients hardly need my services anymore once they started hanging.

If you have never tried it I encourage you to go to Sports Authority, Academy Sports or something similar and ask to try one of their Inversion Machines. It’s not for everybody but you’ll never know until you try….you might just get hooked like I did 20 years ago!

Hello…where would be the best place to find an inversion table? Will hanging upside down cause more pain if I have a sciatica, or if discs
are worn out?
